House Concurrent Resolution 103
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MARY VIRGINIA POTTS ON BEING HONORED AS A MISSISSIPPI AGELESS HERO IN THE GOOD NEIGHBOR CATEGORY.
WHEREAS, Mary Virginia Potts, a resident of Kosciusko, Mississippi, was honored on January 26, 1999, as Mississippi's Ageless Hero in the Good Neighbor category; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi Ageless Heroes, a program established in 1997 by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, are people whose accomplishments at age 65 and beyond are inspirational for others; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Potts, who could be a national spokesperson for neighborliness, is know for her befriending others; and
WHEREAS, a kind and genuine neighbor, Ms. Potts introduced herself to the family who moved next door and immediately formed a bond with the parents and their six-year-old son, Dean; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Potts has become Dean's surrogate grandma as she and Dean spend time reading books, practicing handwriting, working math problems and visiting places around town; and
WHEREAS, having taught school for 41 years, Ms. Potts enjoys the companionship of young people and her proudest accomplishment has been encouraging the education of generations of children; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her activities with children, Ms. Potts is involved in her church and community clubs and organizations; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and pay special tribute to such outstanding Mississippians as Ms. Mary Virginia Potts who dedicated her life to educating and mentoring the young people of the State of Mississippi, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mary Virginia Potts on being honored as a Mississippi Ageless Hero in the Good Neighbor category on January 26, 1999, and express our heartiest wishes for many years of good health, happiness, peace and joy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mary Virginia Potts and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
